A "Typical" Day

The Hat Says it All - "Layin' Low"

Our first full day here on the island was spent like many others during our 12 years or so visiting Abaco. After a restful sleep (we were in bed before 9), we enjoyed coffee and muffins at the house before loading up on sunscreen and heading to North Beach. This little stretch of beach faces the Atlantic Ocean just east of the settlement of Hope Town and, over time, has become our favorite spot. You can hear the bells of St. James Methodist Church in the background while sunbathing, shelling, swimming or snorkeling. Don't worry if your rental doesn't have beach chairs or umbrellas, Tiny Travelers on the island has you covered. We made our way back to our rental home for a quick lunch and break from the sunshine before heading back to finish out our day there. We spend much of our time floating in those warm, calm waters or collecting sea glass. More on that in a future blog. Spaghetti was on the menu for supper followed by yet another golf cart ride to prepare the kids for bed. Our children love it here; as we do. It's a special experience to share with loved ones. There really is nothing like it.

Moore Musings:
For our clan, this was indeed a typical day on the island. For us, the beauty of this place is simply being on an uncrowded beach and enjoying the majesty of God's creation. We pack some drinks and snacks and set up shop for the day. I have learned from our time spent on the island that simplicity is often best. There is nothing complicated or burdensome within the framework of what we accomplish here on vacation. In a life spent trudging through endless checklists, meetings and complicated issues, I have come to appreciate a place in which the most daunting task I face is whether or not to re-apply sunscreen or where we are going to eat that evening. I will admit, it is hard for us to wind down at times. The out islands force you to do so. And for that we are thankful; that the atypical becomes typical.

Video Update (forgive the error in direction - beach is east of settlement)
