Happy Independence Day

As you have heard us mention in the past, "Abaco ain't for sissies". This is true for a variety of statements, but we have been the walking wounded lately with mom battling some back issues and our two year old dealing with an ear infection and fever. Still, we resolve to tough it out and make the best of it. On this island, that is certainly not difficult to do. We visited North Beach this morning and it was as beautiful as always. At one point, I counted 22 people on "our" beach ... a new record. Rainbow and the baby boy got comfortable on the float and we spent a good deal of time in the water. The water here is a beautiful color; a myriad of shades of blue. Small fish swim around in harmony with tourists who flock here for these warm, clear waters. We headed directly to the Hope Town Harbour Lodge for lunch and some rest and relaxation. For lunch, my wife enjoyed the fish tacos while I had my favorite dish, chicken in da' bag! Gary makes the best rum drinks on the island and you cannot go wrong with views from the pool. The beach access view is scenic and would make for a good postcard. In our estimation, there is no better way to spend an afternoon than taking a dip in the pool at HTHL and then walking the pretty beach; easily accessed from the Reef Bar and Grill area. We grilled steaks back at the rental home and paired those with shrimp. Did I mention we eat well on vacation? Rainbow, Abby and I took an evening golf cart ride through the humid night air to Firefly Sunset Resort. We ordered drinks, grabbed a few chairs and watched the fireworks display in celebration of Bahamian Independence Day. A live band performed after fireworks so Miss Abby wanted to stick around for some dancing. The Firefly is situated on the Sea of Abaco side of the island boasts one of the most idyllic views of sunset and the Sea of Abaco anywhere on the island. The sun has won its battle with most of us; even after multiple rounds of sunscreen. I will wear a shirt tomorrow and lotion up, but refuse to let a little discomfort stop me from doing what I do best.

My Wife and I Celebrate at Firefly

Moore Musings:
Happy Independence Day, Bahamaland! We were so excited to be able to celebrate Independence Day on the island. Abaco has such a special meaning in our family. My wife and I were married here. We named our daughter after this place. We have been visiting for 13 years now and each trip, we grow more attached. More over, our children know this place in a special way. They have grown up traveling here and are enchanted by its culture, its people, and its beautiful beaches. I can't say that I blame them. Firefly Sunset Resort was the place to be this evening to celebrate this special day and watch the fireworks light up the sky. The live band echoed throughout the Hope Town sky as stars danced along to the music. If you ever want to experience a "take your breath away" moment, simply look up at he night sky on the island and try to count the stars. Yes, Happy Independence Day to our Bahamian friends. Your country has provided our family with a certain freedom one cannot explain.
