Exploring South

On Monday, July 9th we decided to head south on the island for the day. First stop, Tahiti Beach at low tide. Tahiti Beach is located at the south tip of the island and basically a sand bar that is exposed as the tide goes out. You can walk around for hours looking for treasures to bring back with you. It's also not uncommon to see star fish, nurse sharks, barracuda and other wildlife along your journey. As the day wears on, boaters from all around anchor off the west end and a congregation of Abaco enthusiasts engage in small talk and connect. In the picture above, you can actually see the Thirsty Cuda; a floating restaurant and bar to serve those faithful to this way of life. At low tide and half tides, the area becomes a veritable swimming pool for adults and children alike to enjoy. After a few hours, a thunderstorm off to our south persuaded us to head north to the Seaspray Resort and Marina and their Gaffer's Dockside Bar and Grill. As we mentioned in our previous blog, visting the resorts on the island is a great way to take a break from boating or the ocean and relax. The Seaspray is no different in this regard and offers great drinks, good food, and a pool. The kids enjoyed ice cream and the pool while the adults enjoyed being able to cool off from what was a warm and sticky kind of day on the island. We meandered back to our rental home to shower off and had every intention of visiting Cap'n Jacks for dinner and Bingo (Jacks). As we arrived around 5:30 P.M., there was nowhere to park our golf cart. We basically created our own near the HTHL and arrived at Cap'n Jacks to find not one table to had and a line out the door. Honestly, we have been visiting the island since 2005 and this is a rare occurrence. The crowds boast of a healthy growth and economy on the island, but I do wonder when growth crosses that delicate line and becomes overcrowding. Not a complaint in the least; just a fleeting thought. As we have learned to do, we simply made the best of it and traveled to the Abaco Inn. As luck would have it, we walked right in and were seated. We enjoyed our meal and the view of the White Sound area. Another successful day and another live and learn moment experienced on the island. Hoping the remnants of Beryl stay south and leave us be!

Moore Musings:
We come to Abaco to explore. Perhaps this sounds strange, but it makes sense when you think about it. I cannot think of a trip where we have not explored and experienced something new. Whether it be a new establishment, a new house, a new beach, a new road or a new experience, there is always something somewhere to be explored. You never know who you might run into or what you might see. This is what makes coming to the out islands special. Every trip has it's own unique theme. As we walked through the tidal pools at Tahiti Beach, it was hard not to stop and simply look around at the beauty of such a place. Tomorrow, I am sure we will explore again...perhaps for a place to park our golf cart near the settlement.
