Beach Tired is Good Tired

July 4th, 2014 - Beach Tired is Good Tired

Sea Spray
Happy Birthday, America! We have enjoyed viewing all the pictures on Facebook of our friends and family grilling out and celebrating the 4th in style back in the states! Americans on the island are decked out in red, white and blue and greet one another with salutations of "happy fourth" with a smile on their faces. The Bahamian people are also very kind in remembering and celebrating July 4th. As I type this blog, fireworks are blasting in the night sky near Firefly Resort. We are at the halfway point of our trip and hoping that the weather today is an indicator of what is to come!

Today was simply incredible; special. We started the day off right with some of mom's French toast made from Vernon's homemade bread. Wow!

Afterward, we made our way to our customary spot on the island, North Beach, and snorkeled and looked for sea glass. There is a certain art to collecting sea glass, one I hope to detail in another blog. After enjoying North Beach, we drove south to Sea Spray for lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the view at Sea Spray. Sea Spray is well known for delicious dinner and events like Junkanoo, However, I would highly suggest stopping by Sea Spray for lunch. Order a drink from the bar outside and head over to the pool for a dip. You can even watch the boats come in from White Sound!

After lunch, we headed over to the Abaco Inn for a few drinks and a dip in their pool. The view from the Abaco Inn pool is breath-taking. I am sure my pictures will not do justice to the natural beauty of that area of the island. Abby enjoyed swimming in the pool, dad enjoyed listening to music, and we all enjoyed resting to the sound of the waves crashing upon the iron shore next to the pool. Dad and I had a delicious mudslide, one of several I hope to consume in the next few days. Across the road over in White Sound, people were paddle boarding compliments of Abaco Paddle Board

After a restful afternoon by the pool, we decided to head back to North Beach. I believe I have mentioned it before, but late afternoon and early evening are very underrated times to visit the beach. We looked for more treasures, met up with a friendly gentleman from Florida, and swam in the ocean water to cool off a bit. After all, it is summer on a tropical island. Like Dr. Ralph, of Abaco Forum fame, we also enjoy June/July trips to the islands. We know how to beat the heat and enjoy the calm and warm waters of Abaco.

We made the last minute decision to head to Munchies for some take out. For under 20 bucks, we landed the best chicken burger, fish burger and fries you will find on the island. It was worth the 5 minute walk from the post office dock! We stopped by the LVA for a gallon of milk ($9.95) on the way home.

So, here I am typing away at almost 10:00 P.M. rarely do we get to bed "early" while in the islands. There is just too much to enjoy and then on which to subsequently reflect to just jump in bed when you get home after a fun day in the Abaco sunshine. We were discussing being tired after over 8 hours of fun in the sun and the phrase "good tired" came to mind. Yes, "beach tired" is a "good tired" and that's just the way we like it.

Random Thoughts:
  • Bahamian food, at least what we order, seems to appeal to us southerners. It's like southern cooking, with a kick!
  • Hope to write a blog when I get back home in South Carolina about why Abaco is indeed not for sissies. One example comes to mind, scrubbing endless amounts of sunscreen off of your body in a shower that may or may not have completely hot water and may or may not have decent water pressure.
  • Maybe it's me, but I don't feel as if the humidity has been as bad thus far. Knock on wood.
